It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything.

In addition to original scripts, Cottrell Boyce has also adapted novels for the screen and written children's fiction, winning the 2004 Carnegie Medal for his debut, Millions, based on his own screenplay for the film of the same name.It ends up that this thrill ride involves space travel, and the process of deciding who gets to go is funny and great and a great conversation-starter for kids (and grown ups if you're reading alongside). A few aspects of COSMIC that will really stay with me are the contrasting styles of parenting that are lampooned through our getting to know about the fathers of Liam's four charges, and the degree to which the author is able to convey a sense of wonder and awe about space travel. When the opportunity comes up for Liam to use his height to his advantage, he manages to get himself on a rocket into space! Steven Lenton hails from Cheshire where he spent many a school holiday working in the family Pom-pom Factory, packing poms and designing new products.

In this story Liam, a precociously tall boy, who is always being mistaken for an adult, takes on the role of his dad when offered a once in a life time chance to go into space. Not that they aren’t easy to look up, but you may scratch your head a little when you run across them. Cosmic gets a big gold star for the fact that it is so appealing to both children and adults (particularly parental-type adults). He pretends to be the Dad of one of his class mates, a girl who he has a typical 12 yo relationship with.By jumping between timelines, this book manages to tell lots of stories and give plenty of clues about the plot.

Furthermore, what if seeming to be thirty when you’re twelve could lead you to being the responsible adult on an international space mission? You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot!But being super-sized height-wise has its advantages: he's the only eleven-year-old to ever ride the G-force-defying Cosmic rollercoaster - or to be offered the chance to drive a Porsche. He plays on the notion that World of Warcraft (the multiplayer online role-playing game with millions of subscribers) is the place young people best learn about problem solving and the real world.
